I have the same problem :
I want the users of my website to be able to fill in a database.
So, there is a text field, which once submited, queries the gmap. If
the place is found, the address is formated and saved into the
database (address, city, lat & lng).
If a user queries a place that was already submitted, a "search as you
type" pops up so that there are no duplicates in the database.
But, for example, if it is a chinese or a russian place, the name
doesn't appear.
I'm also deseperatly looking for a solution...

Google returns the results in the native language of the country where
the city is located. It's not possible to get Google to return
everything in English.

If you want to force the output language, you need to use another
geocoding service. Geonames does it: http://ws.geonames.org/search?q=roma&maxRows=1&lang=de
(search for city called "Roma" and output German)

thanks a lot, it seems to work finely !!!
Too bad I have to use another service than gmap...

the good thing is that they provide many interesting functionalities.

But don't Yahoo!'s terms and conditions prohibit using their data on a
competitor's product (ie a Google map)?
