Subject: Wishlist - independent date/time formats
Can we please get an option to set the date & time format of the
interface independently from the chosen language. I very much prefer
the "English (US)" format, except that the US mm/dd/yy date format and
time (am/pm) stink.

I noticed this option was added to gmail (not sure when, though),
which is great! :)
However, it is not available on Google Apps mail (but it is in the
calendar). Adding the option there as well would be great.

In Google Apps the administrator has to enable it, then it is
available. As far as I know.

I am the administrator and AFAICS the only options available are
default language and timezone.

I agree. Gmail should have options on changing date format for user to
choose. It is very annoying that it only shows the time and not the
current date.

there is a setting for that in settings --> labs --> Custom date
formats

it will still just show you the time, but if you hover your mouse over
the time, it gives you the exact date and time. and this is not just
because of this new feature, it has always been like this.
